World-Wide Knit in Public Day, Saturday, June 9, 1:00 – 4:00 PM

The Artful Yarn will host a fun, free celebration of World-Wide Knit in Public Day, Saturday, June 9, from 1- 4 PM in the gardens of the Village Herb Shop. Bring a chair and join us with your knit, crochet or spinning project. Need a project? Stop by our shop and we’ll help you find a great summer project to start right now!

Participants will receive a free pattern for Comfort Dolls for Haiti as we connect with the world through this special event. There will be a free, easy fiber craft for kids to make, light refreshments, and maybe even a visit from some 4-footed fiber friends! It’s the world’s smallest fiber fest! Then enjoy Art by the Falls in Chagrin Falls this same weekend.

Class: Catkin, June 16 & 30, 3:00 – 6:00 PM

It’s textural, structural, botanical and modern! It’s a union of soft curves and balanced lines. It’s a shawl, a wrap, a caplet, a scarf . . . and it’s all yours. This unique design is knit seamlessly from the top down in three sections. The catkin and leaf patterns at the hem are all created through the clever use of slipped stitches. There is no two-color stranded work in this shawl.  All it takes is 2 skeins (840 yards) of Madelinetosh Merino Light or other fingering weight yarn. Several fun techniques to learn include tab cast-on, cabling without a needle, working two colors of yarn, slipped stitches in 2-color work, shawl shaping and more!

Class is taught by Judi Pfancuff, amazing knitting diva extraordinaire, and program officer for the Northcoast Knitting Guild. She knows what knitters at all levels want to know and you can be sure this class will be well-organized and fun!

This two-session class will be held Saturday, June 16 & 30, 3:00 – 6:00 PM. Advanced paid registration required. See calendar for more information.

 

U-Pik-2 in April & May

Look at your calendar! You’re crazy busy the next 2 months. We get it! In April and May, you pick the project and then a class time that fits your schedule. Each 2-hour session is just $10/person. Learn to . . .

Knitting and crocheting are now called the “new yoga!” So relax and learn with us or come back to these gentle arts in one of our monthly “Learn To” classes. And at just $10/session, it will feel so good! We have all the supplies you need! Purchase yarn, needles and hooks at the shop at the start of your class. Classes include an overview of vocabulary, materials/notions, color theory and more. Free patterns provided.

Learn to Knit

Beginning Sunday, April 15, Learn to Knit classes are offered every Sunday, 12 noon – 2:00 PM. Please call the shop to register no later than the Friday before class. $10/person.

Learn to Crochet

One hook, some yarn and you’re off making a fun project! Crochet is enjoying a renaissance and we’re a part of that fun! Learn this beloved “gentle art” again or take it up for the first time.

Ongoing Classes

• Anytime Knitting - Want to hang out and knit awhile? Come join us any day, any time. We’re here. We’d love to see you, see your project and if you need a little help, we’ll do that too! Looking forward to seeing you!
• Learn to Knit (and Purl) Offered every month on different days and at different times to accommodate different schedules.
  Maximum # of Students per Session: 6 Check the calendar or call the shop for this month’s availability. We also try to offer a Mom & Me option (for moms and their children ages 7 -12).
• Learn to Crochet Same as Learn to Knit (and Purl) classes.
• SOS (Save Our Stitches) – every Monday 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM- Bring in any project and we’ll help you figure out what’s challenging you. Check out Anytime Knitting above!

Special Events

• Knitting @ Noon – LAST Tuesday of each month. Bring a lunch or order one of ours! Meet a new yarn, learn herbal fun facts from the Village Herb Shop, and meet new fiber friends. 12:00 PM – 2:00 PM. Must pre-register by noon Monday the day before.
• Yarntini Night FIRST Thursday of the Month (begins May 3, 2012 through December) — a free get together with refreshments on the first Thursday night of each month. 6:00 -8:00 PM
• Madelinetosh May - A special evening with our Madelinetosh yarn representative! See all the yarns and all the colors! Special order event with refreshments and give-aways! Tuesday, May 22, 6:00 – 8:30 PM. THIS EVENT IS NOW FULL. PLEASE CALL TO PLACE YOUR NAME ON OUR WAITING LIST.
