On Christmas Eve, Scrooge is visited by a series of ghosts, starting with his old business partner, Jacob Marley and continuing with the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Future.
Dickens' story symbolizes the love of the holiday many people have at that time of year. For Scrooge, it first represents a holiday where people waste their money on things they don't need. As the story progresses, Scrooge realizes that Christmas is a time for family and giving to those in need.
