About The Artful Yarn
The Artful Yarn is a fun, boutique yarn shop, a friendly retreat for local and visiting fiber friends! We welcome and love meeting fun knitters and crocheters from all walks of life, all skill levels and all connected by a love of fibering - whether it's classes, new projects, new skills or a special event. (We do love to throw a party!)
Our intentionally-curated yarn and gift collection features companies owned by women or families, many of them from the United States. We support fair-wage, companies and those that foster ethical treatment of animals and responsible disposal of dye. Even our gift bags are made from recycled paper, not plastic.
We constantly strive to try be fresh, fun and contemporary in our marketing, class projects and yarn collection while creating great experiences for our customers. We are a shop that builds community around yarn.
Job Requirements
A Part-Time Sales Associate must love a high-energy, fast-paced environment. A Sales Associate is responsible for all sales activities and sales associate job duties, from greeting customers, answering questions, providing assistance, suggesting items, lending opinions and providing product information. Individual responsibilities as a Retail Sales Associate include demonstrating outstanding customer service and selling skills, great knitting and/or crochet skills, keeping the selling floor stocked with merchandise, assisting in display of merchandise or organizing the selling floor and stock areas.
A Sales Associate must process payments through QuickBooks Pro including checks, cash and credit cards. Maintains a professional attitude with sincerity and enthusiasm reflecting The Artful Yarn’s commitment to our customer. Develops product knowledge by staying current with trends through Ravelry and various social media, reading current vendor tags and pamphlets and attending staff meetings in order to communicate information to the customer.
• Understanding of sales principles and customer service practices
• Intermediate to advanced knitter and at minimum, basic crochet
• Ability to demonstrate knitting and/or crochet techniques to individuals
• Knowledge of trending market dynamics
• Solid communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to read, write and effectively communicate with customers, peers and shop management via text and email
• Excellent telephone etiquette
• Ability to multi-task, while being attentive to customers and remaining flexible to the needs of the business
• Operate computer, manage financial transactions and balancing cash box
• Process gift certificates and store credits efficiently
• Ability to work as part of a team and take initiative independent of direct supervision
• Physical demands: This position involves constant moving, talking, hearing, and standing for most of the day
• Excellent customer service focus
• Enthusiastic, friendly, and energetic with a genuine desire to provide outstanding service to every customer
• Available to work a variety of hours, which may include mornings, evenings, and weekends
• Attend 75% of staff meetings over the course of a year
• Must bring an active project to work every day that uses current yarn from The Artful Yarn
• Monitor fiber social media for trends and share with shop owner and other staff
• Follow the shop on Facebook, Instagram and shop website
• Timely communication with shop owner with time-off requests
• Timely completion of class registration form requirements (if teaching)

>This is an hourly position for Saturdays and sometimes weekdays that includes a generous shop discount and free, covered parking.
